Homework : : Elementary

Reasonable homework assignments may be given on a regular
basis in every academic subject, starting in grade two. The
amount of homework is graduated, depending upon the age and
grade level of the child. The time required by an individual
student to complete the homework will be affected by the
ability of the child and his maturity. Time during the class
period will be set aside for the purpose of giving clearly
assigned homework and, in some cases, providing an opportunity
for students to start on this work under supervision.
In general the limits for homework are as follows:
| Kindergarten |
15 minutes (review verses) |
| Grade One |
15 minutes (review work) |
| Grade Two to Three |
30 minutes |
| Grades Four to Five |
60 minutes |
| Grades Six |
120 minutes |
Parents are encouraged to communicate
with the teacher(s) if they find that their child requires
more time than this to complete the homework and feel
that he or she is being given too much to do. The teacher
will
work with the parent to identify the reasons for the
apparent inequity.
Homework and assignments are due on the date and at the
hour assigned. A penalty may be assessed for late work,
unless
the teacher grants an extension.
